Alliance Francaise Canberra presents an evening of contemporary classical music this Friday evening with the premiere of three new works by hellosQuare recordings artist Austin Buckett:

Sonata for Upright Piano (performed by Alistair Noble)
‘stutter’ for String Quartet (performed by Elyane DeFontenay, Sophia McDonald, Xina Hawkins and James Larsen)
‘exhale i’ for cello and piano (performed by James Larsen and Austin Buckett)

Austin might be better known for his work in Pollen Trio and Kasha. He has been developing a body of new compositions during 2010 in his research honours year at the School of Music and was an artist in residency at Alliance Francaise earlier on in the year as well.

To compliment these works, Austin has commissioned label boss Shoeb Ahmad to perform in improvised electro-acoustic combinations with Austin himself as well as Canberra jazz musicians John Wilton and Andrew Fedorovich while also performing solo improvisations on guitar and electronics.

Alliance Francaise is at 66 McCaughey St, O’Connor. Tickets are $10 or $8 for AF members and bookings can be made on 6247 5027. Drinks will on sale before, at interval and after the performance.
